Life seems to be more based from home recently. We find ourselves working and studying at home, next to the same places we eat, spend time with our family wand watch TV. This may pose as a problem as we may find it hard to separate home life and school life. In order to create separate the different functions, here a few ideas;
Create a separation between home life and school life. Find a quiet, condusive and uninterupted area in the house and transform that area to your personal “work/school” area. Having a designated area will allow more focus and less chances of interuptions. Surround yourself with textbooks, reference books, notes and other study materials to encourage the mood. Remove interuptions like mobile phones, TV, snacks and other leisure things.
Make sure the area has sufficient pencils, pens, rules, calculators, marker pens, paperclips, writing paper and other office supplies. Having a printer and scanner in area will give you area a more school / office feel. Ensure the area has enough materials so that there is no need to go anywhere else. Ensure you have all your mathematical instruments, maths study guides and maths tuition tools handy. Having to search for something currently unavailable will throw off your study momentum and will easily distract you.
Keep the area organized. Ensure the area has enough shelves, storage space and specific places for specific things. Just like the previous point, having to search for something will distract you and will eat into your school time. Put schoo materials into files and folders. Color code them if neccessary. I usually put the most frequently used items in the middle of the room that is within easy reach. For the least used items, they will be futher away in cupboards or drawers. You could also put up school and maths tuition timetable posters on the wall to easily keep track.
Color themes are subjective. Some people like light pastel colors for their area. This will remind us of a school or office. Some people like bright colors like orange and blue. This create an exciting and motiviational environment like one of those Google offices we see on YouTube. Whatever the color scheme may be, ensure that it motivates and inspires you to focus, take action and maintain discipline.
Darkly lit rooms may be condusive for designers and also look really cool. But for word based study or work, a brightly lit room is essential to avoid eye strain and encourage feeling fresh. With sufficient bright lights, we’ll give our eyes and brain the impression that its day time and we’ll be more alert and awake.
Customise your area to make it yours. Some people like putting action figurines on their computers. Some like using pink Hello Kitty stationary. Whatever customization you implement, ensure that it inspires you to do your best and motivates you to progress.
The last year, everyone’s work and school life has been greatly affected, especially because we’re having to school and work from home. Even most tuition nowaways is conducted online ( just like our PSEG online tuition courses). It’s important to maintain a sensible and balanced school/work life. Hopefully, with our new home school/work areas, we can still be effective even though we are doing it remotely.
