Many students find maths difficult to grasp. Maths tutor prepares own teaching materials, sets up high-tech classroom

This is especially so for higher-level maths in secondary schools and junior colleges. Jackie Lee Learning Center offers professional help in the subject. Mr Jackie Lee (left), the founder of the centre, taught maths in two renowned junior colleges between 2003 and 2011.

After 2011, he set up a tuition centre to help junior college students to prepare for A-level maths. He prepared his own notes and teaching materials and set up a high-tech classroom to help students achieve better results with less effort.

Mr Lee said: “My primary aim in setting up the centre is to establish a good tripartite relationship among teachers, students and parents.” Mr Lee ends his classes with a postlesson quiz where he analyses the students’ performances.

He said: “The evaluation, which is done outside class time, takes up a lot of my time. “But it is worth all the hard work as the students are serious about their work and are continually improving, and their parents affirm and support my efforts.”

UNFORGETTABLE

He recalled two unforgettable experiences; He said: “I received an e-mail from an overseas student who wanted to sign up for my crash courses. She told me not to start the lesson before 7pm. “I later found out that she landed at Changi Airport at 5.30pm that day.
“Another woman once asked if I could give up a slot for a tuition class so that I could conduct a personal session with her son. “She offered me a large sum of money, which covered the fees of all the students in the class, so that she could secure the slot. “This shows how competitive our education system is.”

Mr Lee advised parents and students not to give up their dreams, and added: “There is hope for tomorrow, so let us all continue to strive together.”
